Big Plans (or not)

This weekend we will be gutting our upstairs bathroom (the dude's bathroom) with no real plan of what the finished product will look like.

The deal was/is that this is "his" bathroom and he gets to make the design decisions. Apparently, I'm the one pulling the inspiration files together to come up with a plan for his approval. Which is really hard.

I don't know how decorators/designers do it. Working with a "client" is not easy when he doesn't know what he wants.

Have you ever gone head first into a demo/remodel project without a plan?

...wish me luck...

  1. I've been stuck in the remodel without a plan for the past 18 months. . .
It all started with "I wish my laundry room wasn't so scary" and it turned into my dad and his friends complete gutting my laundry room, the adjoining storage room and my living room, all with out a plan. . . or an end date

  2. Oh man that's a dangerous can of worms!!

It might be just as helpful to figure out what he doesn't like and go from there. Do you at least have the layout down? It sucks to do plumbing work and then have to make changes.

  4. @Laurendy: I'm scared that the project will never finish!

@Naomi: All of the plumbing and layout are staying the same and the tub is not coming out. We are lucky, the bathrooms were remodeled in the early 1990s by qualfied peeps. I'm sure you are use to working with some crazy clients!

@Ingrid: Oh, there will be pictures!
